Regular Season Round 33: Leeuwarden - ZZ Leiden 74-100

One of the most interesting games of round 33 was a derby match between two teams from Holland. Tenth ranked ZZ Leiden outleveled host Leeuwarden (10-23) 100-74. ZZ Leiden dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Leeuwarden's 32. ZZ Leiden forced 19 Leeuwarden turnovers. Forward Lucas Kruithof (199-2000) nailed 28 points (on 11-of-12 shooting from the field) for the winning side and Stan Van Den Elzen (195-2000) accounted for 17 points and 4 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Five ZZ Leiden players scored in double figures. American point guard Matt Frierson (188-1997, college: Citadel) came up with 21 points and the other American import forward Chris Maidoh (208, college: Stony Brook) added 14 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Leeuwarden in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. ZZ Leiden maintains tenth place with 17-16 record. Leeuwarden lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifteenth position with 23 games lost. ZZ Leiden will meet at home Den Helder (#12) in the next round. Leeuwarden will play against Aalst and hope to secure a win.
